CITY OF TAGUM, DAVAO DEL NORTE

CITY OF TAGUM, DAVAO DEL NORTE – City Mayor Rey T. Uy's Care for School Chairs (CFSC) Program's latest beneficiary is the Municipality of Camiling in the Province of Tarlac, Island Luzon.

Two hundred seventy nine (279) pieces of assorted new school chairs were hauled last May 25, 2012 at the city's motorpool before being transported to the said area, which is the second school in Luzon and outside Mindanao Region to benefit in the ground-breaking project.

“I have read the news article entitled 'Tagum donates chairs to Quezon City School' in one of the national newspaper in the land and I cannot help but admire how the administration transcends the meaning of public service in Tagum City. As the Sangguniang Bayan Committee Chairman on Agriculture and Environmental Protection, I would love to duplicate your agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to experience it also in our municipality,” wrote Mr. Wrancudo Felix in his letter of request dated May 14, 2012 addressed to Mayor Uy.

He added: “The donation of classroom furniture to our Elementary Schools in my district will truly complete our school package that we are dreaming for so long for these barangays public schools.”

This prompted Municipal Councilor Wrancudo P. Felix Office of the Sangguniang Bayan of the Municipality of Camiling to request 200 pieces of school furniture to be used for the district which is composed of five (5) Barangay Schools (Bacabac, Cayaoan, Libueg, Pindangan 1st and Pindangan 2nd) to Mayor Uy, who immediately facilitated the hauling of chairs to be delivered to Tarlac.

The new school furniture was hauled at the Tagum City Motorpool and carried through a wing van and left the area past eleven thirty in the morning last May 25, 2012. Additional 79 pieces were added as per advised of Mayor Uy since the wing van can still accommodate more chairs.

The 279 pieces of new school furniture (132 armchairs, 100 kiddie chairs and 47 deks) were fabricated from seized logs through the Care for School Chairs Program of Mayor Uy.

In an interview, Mayor Uy stressed the Local Government of Tagum is glad to reach out to the Municipality of Camiling, Province of Tarlac and other future requests from schools as long as there are still large volume of seized logs deposited in the City's Motorpool in Tipaz, Barangay East.

Witness during the preparation and hauling of the new school chairs are DepEd Region XI Director Susana Teresa B. Estigoy, Tagum City Divisions Superintendent Mrs. Nenita E. Lumaad, City Vice-Mayor Allan L. Rellon, City DILG Director Eliza P. Mendoza, and City Councilor Nicandro T. Suaybaguio, Jr.

As of the this writing, records show that LGU Tagum through the Care for School Chairs Program already delivered 42,660 pieces of new chairs since its conception in August 2011 to the schools in Tagum City, Davao City, Provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Compostela Valley.

Just recently, the National Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force turned-over 2,461 pieces of lauan logs with a total volume of 490.21 cubic meters to Local Government Unit of Tagum which will use it for the fabrication of chairs to be distributed to schools with dilapidated chairs based in Davao Region. Said action is in full compliance of Executive Order No. 23 mandating a total log ban issued by President Benigno S. Aquino III. (Edwin B. Lasquite/Louie of CIO TAGUM)
